Every year, when the nights are the longest and coldest, gifts are chosen and delivered by an army of secret hands. Every year you tried to understand how they did it, to set up traps, to film them, to catch them redhanded, but alas, you did not discover the secret.
Yet you were noticed.

Now you’ve grown. You are ready to join the elite tactical team in charge of the most meaningful and heartwarming mission: joy-giving.

Welcome to the Yule Army.

You’re part of an elite joy-giving task force. Your mission is to acquire a target, study their need, find the suitable solution, and deliver the goods without a trace.

First released on the Short Games Digest Vol.3 in the San Jenaro Co-op initiative, the Yule Army is now a standalone product for your heartwarming initiatives!

This tiny 25-page TTRPG (plus printer-friendly A4 and US Letter format character sheets) contains a premise, a game mechanics system, as well as sample missions to play with friends and family, including children as young as 7. The system as written requires your favorite d20, but any other die (or cards or paper-rock-scissors) can make it work. Spread joy and kindness!

Light, easy to pick up trpg with a neat central premise and a lot of heart. Doesn't really do crunchy tactical gameplay---it's more of a narrative game---but there's still plenty of room for suspense, and the game is enjoyable for all ages.

Some homebrew with jenga blocks and movement/sightline rules can add crunch if your group needs it.

Thank you for taking a moment of your time to leave this comment! It made my day when I saw it :-)

It's not crunchy at all indeed, there's few rules and it was aimed at strong beginners to find creative ways to find and solve a puzzle (how to find a suitable target, how to find out what would be a good gift for them, how to acquire said gift, and how to plant it without leaving a trace..). It was first published in a family-friendly Co-op, so it was more conceived as "empathy/problem solving exercises for kids" :p

Happy to help! I'm used to sites where everyone reviews everything, so I'm trying to make sure I leave at least a bit of feedback for every tabletop game I've gotten (although I backed the bundle, so I'm probs going to be writing reviews for a while.)

Anyway, I really like the game. I'm outside of the target demographic, so the jenga block stuff is just advice for anyone that's in the same situation. It's def not a game bug, more 'here's how I would adapt the recipe for my own cooking.'

YULE ARMY is a lighthearted RPG about being professional gift-planters. A game aimed at kids (but I am sure it is enjoyable to play for adults too), it has easy to learn rules. I quite like the fun stats of the game, being Know-it-all, Jock, Streeter, Weirdo and Chatter; all of which feels very fitting for a kids' game. I love the operation samples included in the game, which contains sad and lonely people that I want to cheer up with gifts already.

Thank you for reviewing my little thing! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope it'll be a fun activity to beginners of all ages, and spread some "pay it forward, wholesome" activism :)
